Silent Sounds examines the quiet forms of conditioning that shape desire before we recognize it as choice: advertising, television, screens, toys, politics, beauty culture, food marketing, and the sentimental language of childhood.

In these staged photographs, familiar objects become instruments of persuasion. Cartoon figures, dolls, animals, sweets, toy screens, and beauty rituals appear playful at first, but gradually reveal a more coercive structure: innocence is consumed, truth is performed, animals are commodified, and the female body is trained to become image.

The series belongs to Burns’s broader investigation into seductive surfaces and hidden systems of control.
