"Candy Girl" from the Melted Series 
Featured at Regione Lombardia's Anti-Mafia Event

On March 20, 2018, Cristina Burns’s artwork Candy Girl from the Melted series was prominently featured at the Donne contro la mafia. Donne vittime di mafia event held at Palazzo Pirelli, Milan. Organized by Regione Lombardia’s Special Anti-Mafia Commission in collaboration with the Technical-Scientific Committee for Legality and Anti-Mafia Efforts, the event marked the Regional Day of Commitment Against the Mafia and in Remembrance of Victims. 
Candy Girl symbolized resilience and the ongoing fight for justice, offering a striking visual representation of the themes addressed during the event. Its inclusion underscored the role of art in fostering dialogue and inspiring collective action against organized crime.

The conference, opened by Gustavo Cioppa, Undersecretary to the Presidency of Regione Lombardia, emphasized the vital role of collaboration between institutions and civil society in combating deeply entrenched systems of illegality. Speakers included prominent figures such as Alessandra Cerreti, Magistrate of the Anti-Mafia Directorate, and sociologist Ombretta Ingrascì, alongside cultural performances and discussions highlighting the stories of women affected by or resisting the Mafia.
